5 Reasons Why You Should Travel Alone At Least Once in Your Life

I’m not going to lie the idea of going on holiday alone petrified me.
Images of me lost in a city alone or even worse getting kidnapped or robbed by the crazy natives. I also often of being billy no mates by the pool with no one to talk to.
Last year after a purchasing my flat (Most stressful thing I have ever done) and getting over a Lupus flair I was sitting in my office stressed and tired and suddenly decided …..”I’m going on holiday!”
I didn’t want to wait for friends to agree to go and then back out or quibble about dates and locations I just wanted to go. By 5.30pm that day I had booked my flight, my accommodation and my airport transfers and it was one of the best things I have ever done. My plan was to have a break to rest, but I had no idea that this single, spontaneous action would have such a therapeutic effect on not only my health but my mental wellbeing. That old saying is true Travel is good for your soul and is something that really allows you to grow on the inside out But why go it alone? Here are a few reasons:

1. You can go at your own pace
Imagine how freeing it would be to go at your pace? Eat when you want sleep when you want go down to the pool when you want if you feel like it stay in bed all day eating room service go site seeing or just sit in the hotel lobby you can do it if you want to without convenience anyone, having to ask permission or compromise with anyone.
Traveling alone affords you to freedom to be random, go out on adventures or go nowhere turn at without having to worry about anyone else. Take all the time in the world to really immerse yourself in the country you have chosen to visit or soak up the rays by the pool (Or even get wasted at the bar) Guess what it’s totally up to you.

2. It Builds confidence
Travelling solo catapults you out of your comfort zone, which will makes you uncomfortable and essentially builds your confidence levels. Take full advantage of the opportunity to build on communication skills and widen your social by approaching and connecting with people you don’t know. I promise it get easier with time just keep telling yourself if you make a fool out of yourself you will never see them again.

3. You become more decisive
It’s now your time to be a shot caller because everything is up to you, you’re forced to make quick decisions when you’re alone because there’s no one else to bounce ideas off of. Places you go out to eat, take a cab, ride the metro, or walk. It’s all on you Decision-making and having faith in your choices is truly a key skill you establish whenever solo and also something that you can take back to your everyday life.

4. It clears your mind
Being away from everyday life temporally frees you mentally from a of those bills, work and family obligations. Being away from it gives you a chance to really explore your thoughts as distraction really resets your mind. It affords you time to reflect on your routines, your goals, and habits. What can you do differently and how can you improve your quality of life? I agree that travelling alone defiantly isn’t for everyone, but I have come up with five reasons why I believe everyone should travel to a foreign destination on their own, at least once.

5. You become truly independent
It’s scary, but at the same time it is a valuable opportunity to be empowered. We are all born a dependent, and that comfort can come from many different people or things usually someone or something else that you allowed yourself to become dependent on. Your boyfriend, your best friend or even that special chair that makes you feel safe. Away from those thing and people you can explore your true independence.

6. Meet new  people.
Honestly you’re not going to speak to random person by the pool when you are sitting with your bestie or your boyfriend talking about what is probably going on home or where you should go for dinner. I met so many wonderful people on my holiday a few of which I am still in contact with. When I would go to the dinner hall random people noticed I was by myself and would invite me to sit with them and I always had dinner plans for the evening with someone I met by the pool.

7. Do what you want, on your own time
Spend the morning sitting with your feet in the pool reading a book or checking Instagram because you find it relaxing. Or check out the local markets and shopping areas. Traveling solo means you’re free to do whatever it is that you want. Create an itinerary that suits you. Traveling with others can be extremely stressful at times because everyone a different set expectation about what they want to get out of the holiday.. What if your friend wants to party every night but you had already decided that you were done clubbing? When you travel alone, the only persons good time that you are responsible is your own. You’re allowed to be selfish, and you don’t have to apologize to anyone for it. 8. Find yourself. Find your centre and take the time to discover what it is that truly makes you happy. Soul search ad truly ask yourself “Ami happy where I am and where do I want to go?” you will be surprised what you learn about yourself.

Would you ever travel alone?

No1 Lounge Gatwick South Review

No1 Lounge Gatwick South Review

I have said it before love to travel hate to fly and
After waking up at the crack of dawn
sitting in rush hour traffic
lugging around heavy suitcases (That is probably my own fault)
Lining up for what seems like hours,
Take off and put back on your shoes a bunch of times
Answering a bunch of stupid questions from security,
Emptying out your hand bag for security to rifle through your stuff,
Hold your belly in while going to the x-ray machine (If I end up on passport patrol I want my stomach to look flat thanks)
and the walking … oh the walking!
Unfortunately  as I am neither rich, royalty or a celebrity so  I can’t avoid any of the above airport hassles
but I have to say that it after going through all that and before being cramped in a tiny seat for hours its nice to be able to go somewhere nice and quiet
Have a bite to eat and perhaps a spot of tea while enjoying complimentary Wi-Fi and occasionally enjoying the panoramic runway views.
I make myself laugh

Pompous rambling aside the No.1 Gatwick is absolutely lovely

Providing an ideal haven from the airport hustle and bustle with nice comfy sofas and large windows that give lots of light and give the room a nice airy feel
A variety of magazines newspapers and  games are available to keep guests occupied until they wait to board their flights

which for me was not necessary as they have free Wi-Fi!
They also offer complimentary hot and cold food such as pastry’s, fruits, porridges alongside a bistro-style menu as well as complimentary soft drinks and beers the fully-tended bar
(Champagne and cocktails cost extra)
and like I said earlier complimentary Wi-Fi!
No 1 Traveller also has lounges in the UK at Heathrow, Gatwick North, Gatwick South, Stansted and Birmingham from £27.50 per adult at reception, for up to three hours access (children £12.50 each), £22.50 if booked in advance (children £10).
Barclays Premier Account holder you receive complimentary entry under the Airport Angel card.
Priority Pass, Airport Angel & Diners Club members welcome and I believe that they are offering two for one deals for Tastecard holders

12 days and 15kg’s

Packing Wahhhhhh
Normally I love packing for holiday and start my holiday prep anywhere up to a month before I leave

however me and my mother who is also a sun worshiper like me were finding it way to cold here in the Uk
So I decided to treat her to some sun, fun and mother daughter bonding.
I found an excellent deal to go to Egypt in Thomas Cook closed my eyes and booked it

Done

Three weeks till we are due to leave

Obviously work had to get busy and press events have been popping up left right and centre

One week before we are due to leave and I have done nothing! No prep what so ever!
Tickets arrive

15KG luggage restriction???

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD
This is going to be fun…………NOT!

I love to have ALL of my creature comforts with me when I am travelling and during my last trip to Cancun
I had to end up leaving a lot of my clothes behind as my case was overweight
yes the maids that cleaned the room loved me and gave me hugs for leaving them tons of bikinis and sundresses
But I cannot go through that again.
Nor can I go through the frantic and embarrassing ordeal of having to open suitcases during check in at the airport
to move items around or take items out of the suitcase to avoid charges.
Time to get super organised.

Inspired by Martin Money savers mantra I decided to come up with one of my own

Wots Her Name Again Packing Mantra

I do not need to change three times a day
I hardly ever end up wearing heels on holiday

I hardly wear make up on holiday

You don’t really need flip flops or sandals to match every outfit

I never end up going out every night so I don’t need a dressy outfit for every evening
I don’t need to be fashion magazine fly every day of my trip

10pm on a Wednesday night with 4 days before I was due to sign out seemed like the right time.
After taking out all of my holiday bits out and placing them on the bed ready to be sorted, folded and packed
I felt like I was ready to give up chuck everything on the floor and go to sleep but eventually I managed to narrow
A heap of clothes, swimming costumes, sunglasses, flip-flops, ect down to the absolute necessary items that I will need during my trip
Weighing in at 10.8kg’s!!!!

Go me!

Love to travel HATE to fly

It doesn't matter how carefully you try to plan so,thing something can always go wrong :(

After arriving gatwick south at our planned time, handing myself keys to the parking valet and saying by to my car we mad our way to the  Thomas Cook checking desk so far so good.

No Que this is perfect handed our info to the to check in lady and weighed our luggage then I was told........
Your luggage is four kilos over!
Your hand Luggage is five kilos over! And you cannot bring your camera case as that counts as a item of hand luggage!

WTF!!

The next few 30 minutes were spent redistributing items between my hand luggage my suitcase and Sally's suitcase and deciding what I can throw away
Eventually I came up with the idea of putting my handbag into my mini pull along suite case, putting most of my toiletries into Sally's hand bag and carrying my travel blanket I'm ,y hand.

Nothing I could do about then Four extra KG's on my check in luggage.
Me "how much will it cost for the extra weight"
Checkin lady " £18 per KG!

After some quick mathematics I realised my packing blunder would cost me £80!

I was livid but fudge it jus wanna get on the plane

Grabbed my purse but the checkin lady discreetly shook her head a told us to go to the security........
Did what I think just happened happen??

RESULT!!

Oh yeah and our flight was delayed by 1 hour and 15 mins!

BAH

Off to security which was surprisingly painless,  Passport control is now automated so you jus scan your passport go through,
After our bags were scanned we hit up the terminal.

Unfortunately as I had move all my stuff around I couldn't remember what bags my cameras were I. So couldn't rake pictures of how they makes over the terminal but it looks lovely.

I tried to avoid all off the high end duty free cosmetic and perfume stores but there it was........

MAC

What started as just having a look ended up in my making s purchase, I'm happy to say I didn't go while just picked ups toner and pressed powder to control ly greasy skin and off we went.

I was very happy and excited to be invited in to the No 1 lounge and after the stress of nearly throwing away my clothes the calming atmosphere was defiantly in order.

Quite a bit smaller than the Gatwick North lounge but just as tastefully decorated the Gatwick South Lounge has a fully stocked bar and offered a selection of hot food and a continental breakfast, fruits and a selection of teas and juices.

Unfortunately due to out flight being delayed we had a bit more time the. We originally accepted so we quickly selected out food and sat down to eat.
(With my distrust of airplane food I made sure to get a lot)
While keeping an eye on the departures board.

I also me up with Sue who I met last year and was on our flight and had a nice little chat.

When our boarding gat was finally announced we made out way to the gate (after a quick detour to WH Smith to pick up some magazines' water and snacks)

Before we knew it we were on the plane and in the air
Bye Bye UK

Apologies for the lack of pics peeps

Holiday packing

I have written many travel tips post which I hope you guys have enjoyed reading becauseI have enjoyed writing them.
As much as I love travelling to different countries I hate the actually travelling part.

and  long haul flights are the worst.
I have the attention span of a flea, I always hate the food, I’m always cold!

and Oh yeah

I get BORED
And no matter how hard I try I can’t sleep on planes.
I’ve tried not sleeping the night before, and I don’t want to resort to sleeping tablets incase  something happens during  the flight and nobody can wake me.

I have found that having as much home comforts as possible will at least keep me content and stop me from annoying those around me.
For my in  tips checkout this

Some people wait until the very last minute to pack their suitcase for a holiday.
Despite relentlessteasing from my family and friends I tend to start packing anywhere from amonth to two weeks before I am due to leave depending on my work schedule.

In this instance due to a very hectic schedule at work and college I started 5 weeksbefore I was due to leave.

The first thing I do is make a table in excel specifying the amount of days I will be away and activities I have pre planned while I am there ie Quad biking, Boat partiesor club hopping tours ect

I also check the website of the resort that I am going to see if they will be having any theme nights or activities that I may what to take part in.

I then breakup my day in to evening and day time and then plan my outfits

Once I knowwhat I need I can go through what I have and select appropriate items which I add to my table and chuck in my suite case.

When I have finished this exercise I can then put together a shopping list of what I need.

When I am away I like to have my creature comforts with me so I always pack the following:

  Pillow case
I am allergic to some washingpowders but I can never remember which kind

I normally have this in my carry on any way
perfect for afternoon naps without upsetting the bed clothes.

Travel plug adapter +Extension wire Hotelplug sockets always seem to be in the most random of places and charging Camerachargers, Ipod chargers, mobile phone charger one by one is a LONG TING so Ihave an multi extension wire that lives in my suitcase just for travelling

 Towel
I know that you get towels in the hotelroom and round the pool but I like to have one of my own and if I end up buyingto much things I just leave it at the hotel.

This little diddy is my newest find again I know that Hotels give you round the pool which you can place on the sun loungesbut after it has touched he sun lounger I am reluctant to touch my face with itand ac soon as you change the position on the sun lounger the towel just falls off L

Cup!! I got this little tip from the Canucncarewebsite. Why keep going up to the bar to refill the tiny cups they give you inresorts when you can fill up this little beauty which will keep your beverage colderfor longer, and keep it chlorine and bug free

Pack of crackers – Because I love crackers andif I’m feeling poorly from too much drinking

Holiday Haul 2 Confessions of A shopaholic edition

Rebecca, you just got a credit card bill of $900. You do not need a scarf.
Then again...
...who needs a scarf?
Wrap some old jeans around your neck, that'll keep you warm. That's what your mother would do.
You're right, she would.
The point about this scarf isthat it would become part of a definition of your...
Of your psyche.
Do you see what I mean?
No, I do. Keep talking.
It would make your eyeslook bigger
Mmm...
It would make my haircut look more expensive.
You'd wear it with everything. It would be an investment. You would walk into that interview confident.
Confident.
And poised.
Poised.
The girl in the green scarf.
The green scarf, please.
Good choice. It's the last one.
That'll be $120.
How would you like to pay?
I remember watching this scene onConfessions of a Shopaholic and thinking that even those Rebecca’s reasoning was totally outlandish I had to admit that I have had similar conversations myself when justifying a purchase that I don’t neednecessarily need.
They say that admitting you have a problem is the 1st step right?
Hello My name is Lee-Anne and Iam a Shopaholic

All of my friends said I was crazy when I started packing for my holiday a month before I was due to travel but my logic was

”If I don’t know what I have already how will I know what I need to purchase for my holiday”

once I was packed and had myshopping list of things I needed and an idea of my budget I felt safe to let myself loose on the stores.

I just needed a couple vest tops a Dermalogica travel set and some sunscreen, That seems simple enouth right??

Oh no

Managed to pick up the Dermalogica travel kit for oily skin no problem

,
Even made it in and out of boots to get my sun tan lotion with out any impulse  buys.

Then to Primark.......
What had started out as a quicknip in to my local shopping centre to get a few bits and bobs for my holiday turned into a full on spree.
Vest tops – Tick…….. Why not just get one in every colour ….. ended up buying 20!

  10 of which in brown
(I need these to wear under my blouses for work, I get cold very quickly you know)

hold on!

I hardly have any blouses for work ended up buying four!

I really need something in Bordeux this season.
These jeans are nice ..

may as well get a pair in Tan and Black also.
>

Its getting nippy out should probably get some sweaters for work, one in every colour yes please… Black, Pink, and Cream

What am I actually going to wear on the plane, Something that is not to constricting but warm ..
This peace sign sweater will do the job

Underwear two packs should do me.

Thank good it was only Primark lol

Considering I was only meant to pick up some sunscreens and about 3 vest tops
